A middle-aged man, Arasto Gitonga Mwita, has been taken to court for allegedly sending threatening and abusive messages to Runyenjes MP, Cecily Mbarire.

Alleged Threats and Abuse

According to court records, Gitonga appeared before Senior Magistrate Paul Nandi and faced allegations of sending a message to Mbarire that included derogatory language and threats. The message allegedly stated, "Usichukue simu maraya ya mwanamke", which translates to "Do not pick my calls you prostitute".

Furthermore, Gitonga allegedly threatened to kill Mbarire, comparing her potential fate to that of the late George Muchai, a former Kabete MP who was killed. In a text message, Gitonga allegedly wrote, "Nitapanga njama u die like MP Muchai. I Promise u, u will not see the next election", which means "I will ensure that you die like MP George Muchai. I promise that you will not live to see the next election".

Context and Response

The alleged incidents occurred on May 30, 2015. Sources suggest that Gitonga may have had romantic feelings for Mbarire, which were rejected, leading to his actions. However, the motivations behind Gitonga's behavior are not entirely clear.

The case was set to be heard in court on June 8, 2015.
