The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has lost a legislator to the Jubilee Party after Kisii County Women Representative Mary Sally Otara defected.

Otara claimed her defection was influenced by infighting among party members in the county. She stated that she had been loyal to ODM but the party had ignored and sidelined her in its affairs.

I have remained loyal to the ODM party, but the leadership of the party has literally chased me away. They no longer involve me in the party programs and they seem to have preferred candidates.

Otara was received at her new party by supporters and aspirants at a meeting at Sameta Boys’ High school in Bobasi Constituency. Among those who welcomed her to Jubilee was Kisii Senator Chris Obure, who had earlier defected to Jubilee alongside Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.

Another leader who has defected from Kisii county to Jubilee is Simon Ogari of Bomachoge Chache.

The development comes after Raila Odinga toured Kisii county, where he welcomed former Education Minister Sam Ongeri to ODM. Ongeri's arrival was seen as a boost for ODM ahead of the August 2017 General Election.
