Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has revealed that she does not know how to cook ugali, a staple food in her homeland.
In a television interview with NTV's Larry Madowo, Lupita confessed that despite having a 'mwiko', she struggles to get the combination of maize flour and hot water right.
Lupita expressed her longing for a good, white lump of ugali, which she misses the most about home, despite dining with Hollywood celebrities.
During the interview, Larry Madowo asked Lupita if she missed living in Kenya, to which she replied:
I miss ugali a lot, because I also don’t know how to cook ugali.
When asked to elaborate, Lupita said:
Yaa I don’t know how to cook Ugali. I know it’s really, really bad. I have a mwiko but I don’t know how to cook ugali.
Lupita was speaking during a homecoming tour, which includes art mentorship activities and an awareness campaign on wildlife conservancy efforts in the country.
As part of the tour, she will feature in various conservation adverts and host a dinner gala.
