A Gatundu South parliamentary aspirant, Kung'u Kibathi, is lucky to be alive after 100 drunk youth allegedly showed up at his house on the night of Saturday, February 4, with the intention of killing him.
According to reports, the youth raided Kibathi’s home in Muitiku village, breaking windows and baying for his blood. Kibathi’s sister, Triza Waruiru, said that she heard noises at around 8:30 pm and upon investigating, saw a crowd of people – some on motorbikes – approaching the house.
"They were shouting MK tosha (MK is enough). Where is he (Kung'u) we kill him? They then started pelting the house with stones. Together with my mother, we screamed to attract neighbors who came to our rescue," said Waruiru as quoted in the Star.
No one was injured, but Kibathi’s family accused Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria of masterminding the attack. "He is playing cheap politics. He should not have attacked my mother since she is not his competitor," said Kung'u.
It was reported that Moses Kuria had been spotted in a bar in Mutomo market, half a kilometer from the scene of the incident, where he addressed a group of youth an hour before the attack on Kibathi. Kuria denied any involvement in the incident, but police are investigating.
