Police are investigating the deaths of an eight-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy in Nairobi and Meru, respectively.
The girl's body was found on the roadside at Kirigua village, Ntakira, at 8 am. Initial investigations indicate she was defiled before being killed. The standard two pupil had been sent away from school due to a Sh1,000 fee balance owed by her parents.
According to her father, she did not reach home after being sent away from school, prompting him to report the matter to police.
In a separate incident, the body of a four-year-old boy was found dumped in a river at Githurai at noon on Wednesday. Police were still trying to identify his parents at the time of reporting.
A scene of crime investigator described the boy's body as having a deep cut on the forehead and a swollen face. A black polythene paper and a bag were found beside the body, suggesting it may have been used to transport the body to the scene.
In Meru, a 30-year-old man described as a 'known criminal' was arrested in connection with the boy's death. He was identified by villagers before his arrest. A blanket with blood stains was recovered from outside his house, and his underwear, t-shirt, and vest also had blood stains, according to the police.
