According to the original account, Queen Mathilda of Belgium intended to thank Origi but instead congratulated Romelu Lukaku, confusing the two players.
As reported, Queen Mathilda said to Lukaku: "Bravo, thanks to your goal, we won, right?" Lukaku corrected her, pointing out that it was actually Origi who scored, and the queen apologized before moving on.
The brief exchange, captured in a 15-second video, showed the footballers downplaying the incident to avoid embarrassing their queen.
Origi, the son of former Kenya national team footballer Mike Origi, made history as the youngest scorer in the tournament and the first teenager to score in a World Cup since Lionel Messi in 2006.
