On Friday, February 24, three suspected members of the Sabaot Land Defence Force were killed by angry residents in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon.
The residents lynched the three suspects and later torched their houses for allegedly killing an elderly man. According to Nation, the suspects had wanted to grab the man's land, killed him, and dumped his body in Mt. Elgon forest.
The incident occurred on the same day Deputy President William Ruto issued a shoot-to-kill order on bandits wreaking havoc in Baringo County. A chief was also killed in Baringo, kilometers away from where Ruto was addressing a meeting during his tour.
Area police boss Ezekiel Kiche said an investigation has been launched, and security officers have been deployed in the area to stop more killings. "Investigation is ongoing, the law does not allow mob justice; they should have arrested them and handed them to us," he said.
