Fidel Odinga, also known as Makarios, was given this name when he was baptized into the Orthodox church.
To marry Lwam Gatachew Bekele, Fidel had to convert from Anglican to Orthodox Church, as the requirement was for the husband and wife to be of the same religion. This meant Fidel had to sacrifice his original faith to marry the woman he wanted to spend his life with.
