The County First Ladies Association has recognized Lillian Nganga, the second wife of Governor Alfred Mutua, as the First Lady of Machakos county, effectively locking out his estranged first wife, Dr Josephine Thitu.

During the launch of the association's five-year strategic plan, Ms Nganga was pictured alongside 46 other county first ladies.

Context and Controversy

The association has faced challenges in determining its legitimate members, particularly when dealing with wives of polygamous governors who attend meetings to represent their respective counties.

First wives, including Dr Thitu, have consistently asserted their legitimacy as first ladies of their counties.

Governor Mutua and Dr Thitu are currently involved in a contentious dispute over the custody of their three children and the ownership of their house in Westlands.

The governor has previously attempted to prevent Dr Thitu from taking their children on vacation abroad and has denied reports related to the dispute as lies.

Ms Nganga, the governor's second wife, has faced criticism on social media for her public appearances, including a charity event at the AIC Kangundo Children's Home in February 2015.
