Joy Karambu, popularly known as Kawira from the local drama series Papa Shirandula, recently shared intimate details about her marriage and personal life in an interview with edaily.
Kawira, who got married at a young age to Ephantus Wahome, a pastor, gospel artist, and motivational speaker, talked about the challenges she faced in her early days of marriage. She mentioned that it was difficult to adjust to the expectations of being a wife, having been used to her freedom as a single person.
Early Life and Career ¶
Kawira was born and raised in Timau, an area between Meru and Nanyuki. She is the last born in a family of three girls and was brought up by a single parent after her father passed away when she was four years old.
She attended Timau Primary School and Angelic Girls' Secondary School in Meru, where she developed an interest in acting. Kawira later enrolled for a course in deejaying and pursued a diploma in Mass Communication at the East Africa Institute of Professional Studies (EAIPS).
Acting Career ¶
Kawira started acting at a young age and gained recognition for her role in Papa Shirandula. She auditioned for the role after being advised by a friend to visit the Kenya National Theatre (KNT), where she was given a chance to perform.
Her acting skills and unique accent impressed the producer, who incorporated her character into the script. Kawira has since become a household name, known for her humorous and jovial personality.
Marriage and Personal Life ¶
Kawira tied the knot with Ephantus Wahome in November 2014, while she was in her mid-twenties. The couple met at an event managed by Mr. Wahome, where Kawira was the emcee.
She described her husband as having all the qualities she had prayed for and said that their marriage has been growing stronger by the day. However, Kawira admitted that it was challenging to adapt to married life, especially with the loss of freedom and the need to adjust to her husband's expectations.
Kawira emphasized the importance of communication, trust, and submission in a marriage, saying that these three pillars are crucial in keeping a marriage intact. She also advised readers to approach marriage with a positive mindset, saying that if one expects their partner to desert them, they likely will.
