CORD leader Raila Odinga was mobbed by enthusiastic crowds in Eldoret Town on Saturday, December 5, 2015, while on his way to Soy. The crowds, aware of his transit, planned to stop his motorcade and hear him speak.
Traffic on Uganda Road was held up for over an hour as people demanded that he address them, particularly regarding the state of the nation, including the economy, corruption, and the progress of Okoa Kenya.
Odinga spoke to the crowd, criticizing the Jubilee regime for corruption and wastage, citing scandals such as the Eurobond and NYS funds. He promised to release more information on the Eurobond, including a list of individuals responsible for the loss of public funds.
According to Odinga, Treasury CS Henry Rotich failed to explain how the $2 billion borrowed from the Eurobond was spent, contradicting treasury statements that the funds were used for infrastructure. Odinga claimed that the Eurobond cash could have covered the construction of 30 roads similar to the Thika Superhighway.
Odinga also criticized the Jubilee government for imposing high taxes on basic commodities and for mistreating teachers by withholding their September salaries. He questioned the Teachers Service Commission's actions despite directives from President Uhuru Kenyatta and the new Cabinet Secretary to pay the teachers' dues.
Earlier, Odinga had met with newly elected ODM officials in the North Rift and was scheduled to meet with farmers' representatives from the region. He was headed to Soy to attend the wedding of the daughter of Party official Joseph Misoi, a former Eldoret South MP.
