Mark Masai, a skilled TV journalist and presenter, is known for delivering news in an authoritative manner. He began his career at the age of 22 when he joined Nation Media Group’s NTV in 2008.
Masai’s journey to becoming a top news anchor was not straightforward. At just 7 months old, his biological mother, Fatuma Abdullahi, gave him up for adoption due to her young age and financial difficulties. He was later adopted by Mary Wright, a British missionary, who raised him and his foster brother until she left the country in 2001.
According to Masai, his adoptive mother played a significant role in shaping his journalism career. He credits her for instilling in him the importance of proper English language usage, which he now utilizes in his profession. Masai recalls,
"My mother insisted on the proper use of English language, she was an English teacher and the use of proper language was mandatory, that’s what I am using today to pay my bills,"
in a recent interview with AM Live.
Masai’s participation in the African Children’s Choir, which allowed him to tour the US and perform in front of large crowds, helped him develop the confidence needed for public performances. He pursued a degree in Social Communication from Catholic University and landed a job as a newsreader at Hope FM shortly after graduating.

Masai eventually transitioned to TV, joining the Nation Media Group as a news anchor and reporter. When asked why he made the switch, Masai explained that he had envisioned hosting his own show to help people resolve issues, but instead, he opted for news anchoring due to his prior experience.
For aspiring media professionals, Masai advises,
"Do not get into the industry because of the glamour, do it because of the passion you have for communication,"
and emphasizes the importance of balancing public and private life once in the industry.
Masai finds motivation in the credibility associated with his job and the opportunity to mentor others. His career serves as an inspiration to many, showcasing his dedication and perseverance in the field of journalism.
