On June 27, 2019, Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu after feeling unwell during a function in Homa Bay County.
Two weeks later, on July 10, 2019, Awiti was transferred to Nairobi's Aga Khan Hospital for further treatment.
According to Homa Bay County's Director of Communications, Juma Aluoch, Governor Awiti's health has improved significantly, and he is expected to return to work soon.
Awiti had been attending to his duties as governor despite his illness, including presenting cheques for county support to Orero Boys Secondary School in Rangwe on June 27, 2019.
Awiti expressed gratitude to God for his recovery and asked the residents of Homa Bay County to remain calm and united as he prepares to return to work.
He also thanked his fellow politicians for their support during his illness.
This is not the first time Awiti has been hospitalized after being admitted to a hospital in Homa Bay County two weeks after returning from a medical leave.
