Mathare United football club has secured a lucrative sponsorship deal from Britam, worth KShs 75 million, to be spread over the next three years. The deal will cover players’ salaries and allowances, coaching staff salaries and allowances, team officials’ salaries and allowances, club logistics, as well as provide the team with new Britam-branded jerseys.
According to Britam's Group Managing Director, Dr. Benson Wairegi, the partnership demonstrates the company's commitment to football and other sporting activities across the country. Dr. Wairegi stated,
"As a leading diversified financial services group, Britam is very proud to be associated with leading clubs in the Kenyan premier league, and we are looking forward to a long-lasting relationship with Mathare United FC".
Dr. Wairegi also expressed optimism about the current Mathare United FC squad, noting that they have the potential to finish in the top five of this year's Kenyan premier league and potentially emulate the 2008 squad that clinched the Kenya premier league title.
Mathare United Chairman and founder Bob Munro welcomed the deal, stating that it would enable the club to retain its best players and return to the top of the Kenyan premier league. Munro said,
"MUFC is a victim of its own success as our best players are often lured by higher salaries from other teams. Now, thanks to Britam, we can keep our best players and return to the top of KPL".

Mathare United FC was founded in 1994 and won promotion to the premier league in 1998. The club was crowned Kenya Premier League winners in 2008 and is currently ranked among the top ten in the Kenya premier league.
