A man identified as Francis Wanjau Alehandro has been arrested for allegedly swindling a needy family out of 2.8 million shillings. The family had been raising funds to send their sick child to Canada for treatment.
Alehandro had been canvassing for donations on behalf of the family but made off with the raised funds instead. The child was scheduled to have their first appointment with doctors from different countries but failed to travel due to Alehandro's actions.
Following a tip-off from the wife to city lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, investigators arrested Alehandro at a popular shopping center. Wanja Rose Kinyanjui and Ndungu Nyoro provided vital information to the police, leading to Alehandro's arrest.
It was determined that out of the 2.8 million shillings, only 200,000 shillings had not been used by Alehandro. He was taken to Muthangari Police Station and is being held before being arraigned in court.
Ndungu Nyoro, a social media mobilizer, has been involved in raising funds for various causes, including working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and helping to clear medical bills for individuals in need.
