Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has been praised by motorists for his hands-on approach in managing traffic during the Masaku Sevens International Rugby Bonanza.

Apart from his development efforts in the county, Mutua spent over four hours directing traffic to prevent a major jam, ensuring a smooth experience for drivers.

Unlike the previous year's event, which was marred by massive traffic jams lasting over eight hours, Mutua took charge of traffic management at key points in Machakos town.

According to his spokesperson and Press Secretary, Mutinda Mwanzia, Mutua was watching rugby at the Kenyatta Stadium when he was alerted to the building congestion in the town center. Upon realizing that police would not arrive in time, Mutua decided to take matters into his own hands.

"Dr. Mutua made a few phone calls and when he realized that by the time the police showed up, the smooth flow enjoyed so far would be lost, he hit the road and used his wits to ensure that there was no snarl up," said Mutinda Mwanzia.

Motorist Tevin Kitheka expressed gratitude towards the Governor, stating, "We are so happy to see our Governor caring about our welfare. Last year was a nightmare on the roads."

Mutua implemented measures to divert traffic, closing certain roads and redirecting revelers to the People’s Park, one of his flagship projects.

The event saw significant improvements in traffic flow and behavior among attendees compared to the previous year.

"I wish to thank all those who participated in the event and pledge that next year it will be bigger and better," said Mutua.

Mutua was later joined by the County Security team, led by County Police Commander Jacinta Wesonga, and together they managed traffic until 2 a.m.
