KRA Clears 10 Betting Firms After Government Suspension

On July 23, 2019, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) cleared 10 betting firms whose licenses had failed to be renewed by the government over tax compliance.

The firms, which include Betway, OdiBets, Mozzartbet, Ken Bookmakers, Lucky 2u, Eazi Bet, Kick off, Eastleighbet, Palms Bet, and Bet boss, had been suspended by the government following a crackdown on betting firms by Interior CS Matiang'i.

The government had refused to renew the licenses of 27 betting firms, and their pay bill numbers were frozen, effectively shutting down their operations.

However, the KRA has now cleared these 10 firms, allowing them to resume their operations.
