A Jubilee Party nominated senator, Paul Njoroge Ben, has been arrested following a gun incident at a petrol station.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 7, when the senator confronted Shell/Vivo Managing Director Polycarp Igathe at a Shell petrol station near Karai shopping centre along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.
Igathe and his team had arrived at the petrol station, which is owned by the senator, to recover their company's assets. The senator allegedly shot twice at Igathe, who was trying to recover the assets, after becoming incensed when Shell workers started removing the logo from the petrol station.

The senator's actions were reportedly in response to the removal of the Shell logo from the petrol station, which had been out of stock for weeks and had no working capital, according to Igathe.
The senator's civilian firearm certificate was confiscated by the Naivasha DCI boss, and his pistol, serial number B766367, was taken for ballistic examination.

The senator denied being arrested, stating that he had only gone to the police station to write a statement. However, he was later taken to Naivasha Police Station for further questioning and will be charged with misuse of a firearm.
The senator accused his business rivals of planning to take the petrol station away from him, citing a long-standing rivalry. He claimed to have obtained a court order to prevent this from happening.
According to the Daily Nation, the senator said, "I have not been arrested. I am going to record a statement at the police station, and "It is a rivalry that has lasted for a while and I have managed to obtain a court order to the effect."
