Police arrested eight suspects in connection with the Mpeketoni attack and arraigned them in court. With the assistance of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), the following individuals were identified as key suspects in the deadly attack:

Although Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, the government, through President Uhuru, suggested that political instigators were involved. The revelation of the suspects' names may introduce a new aspect to the debate surrounding the attack.
