President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee Party have suffered a significant loss as their point-man in Kisii, Professor Sam Ongeri, has defected to Raila Odinga's ODM.
Raila Odinga was in Kisii to receive Professor Ongeri, the former Kenyan Ambassador to the UN Habitat, who has joined ODM and is eyeing the Kisii county senatorial seat.
During Raila's address to the crowd at the Gusii stadium in Kisii, residents chanted 'Uhuru must go', referring to the upcoming August 8 General Election where Raila will face off with Uhuru.
Professor Ongeri stated, 'I have made my mind, I will not go back,' indicating his commitment to ODM. He also vowed to work closely with Governor James Ongwae.
Ongeri's defection comes a day after another ambassador, Chirau Mwakwere, also decamped to ODM. The move is seen as a significant blow to Uhuru's Jubilee Party.
