On July 22, 2019, State House Director of Digital and Media Dennis Itumbi appeared before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot, facing charges related to an alleged fake letter claiming a plot to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.

Itumbi was charged with three offenses: making a false document without authority, publishing a false statement, and reprogramming a mobile phone.
