The government has cancelled two road-building contracts in Murang'a County due to the contractors' failure to complete the work on time.
According to Roads Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, the tender for the construction of the Gitugi-Mioro road has been awarded to a Chinese company after Nyoro Construction Company failed to meet the deadline.
Similarly, the tender for the Mairi-Makomboki-Gituru road has been awarded to another contractor following Lee Construction Company's inability to fulfill its obligations.
Macharia stated that the roads have been under construction for nearly seven years, indicating that the initial contractors were not capable of completing the project.
Reasons Behind Cancellation ¶
The Cabinet Secretary made these remarks during the launch of the Kiria-ini-Kanjama road, where he emphasized that lazy contractors have hindered the government's efforts to improve infrastructure nationwide.
Macharia warned that contractors who fail to complete their work on time risk having their tenders cancelled, emphasizing that the government prioritizes timely and quality work.
The delays had sparked protests from locals, who demanded that the government revoke the tenders.
