A National Executive Council meeting held by Wiper Party on February 21 saw tempers flare among party members over recent activities by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
According to sources privy to the meeting, angry members banged tables and shouted over Kalonzo's preference for some members for political seats at the expense of those eyeing the same seats.
Kalonzo recently welcomed Makueni Governor Kivuta Kibwana into the Wiper Party by agreeing that he joins with his Muungano Party and get a direct ticket to defend his seat. He is also said to be preferring Kitui Governor Julius Malombe at the expense of other members eyeing the seat, notably Kitui Senator David Musila.
A section of Wiper leaders do not want Malombe to be re-elected. These were some of the issues that were addressed during the meeting and members who felt disrespected by the party leader angrily expressed themselves, forcing an agreement to be reached.
The NEC agreed that members will sign the document signed by Kalonzo and Kibwana after a few amendments are made. Early on, Kibwana had threatened to leave party for fear that he had caused infighting by reaching such an agreement.
The issue of Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama preferring ODM's Raila Odinga as the NASA presidential candidate also popped up during the meeting. It can be remembered Kalonzo and Muthama had a fall when the former accused the latter of working behind him and warned him that he would suffer dire consequences. However, Muthama dismissed the claims as baseless when asked.
