Kenya Airways has appointed Mbuvi Ngunze as its new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective December 1, 2014.
Ngunze, who was previously the Group Chief Operating Officer, will succeed Titus Naikuni, whose term ends on November 30, 2014, according to a press statement issued by the airline's chairman, Evanson Mwaniki.
The appointment follows a search process conducted by the international executive search firm Spencer Stuart Ltd, which was engaged by the Kenya Airways Board of Directors in January to identify a successor to Naikuni.
Mwaniki stated, "As such, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mbuvi Ngunze, who is the current Chief Operating Officer in KQ to the role of Group Managing Director & CEO of Kenya Airways Ltd., with effect from 1 December 2014."
The Board expressed its support for Ngunze and announced plans to initiate the recruitment process for a new Chief Operating Officer.
Mwaniki added, "On behalf of the Board of Directors of Kenya Airways, I also wish to take this opportunity to call for your full support for Mbuvi Ngunze as he takes over the leadership of the Company’s day to day affairs, and to wish Dr. Naikuni and his family Godspeed as he prepares to go into his retirement."
