First Lady of Zimbabwe, Grace Mugabe, has stated that President Robert Mugabe will be on the ballot for the next year's election, even if he passes away before then.
During a rally in Buhera, Zimbabwe, the First Lady criticized a faction within the ruling ZANU-PF opposed to President Mugabe's candidacy due to his age. She argued that those opposing him were equally old, having served with him since 1980.
Grace Mugabe added that Zimbabweans would vote for President Mugabe's name on the ballot, even if he is deceased, saying they would put an 'X' next to his name and vote for his corpse if necessary.
Analysts interpret her comments as confirming fears that President Mugabe 'will rule from the grave.' Some also believe she is positioning herself to succeed her husband, given her previous declarations of being the virtual President of Zimbabwe.
