Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has married a Cape Verdean model turned air hostess, Iara Fortes, who is 27 years his junior.
The couple exchanged vows in front of family, friends, and fellow politicians, including Nigeria’s President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, at Osho’s Iyamho residence.
They were later led by President Buhari to the wedding reception held at the People’s White Hall in the governor’s country home.
Age Difference and Public Reaction ¶
Governor Oshiomhole addressed the 27-year age difference between him and his wife, which has been a topic of discussion since their wedding.
"She is very humble, she appreciates the nature of my job and life, that I return home late, sometimes at 3a.m. She understands my weaknesses; she is more or less the mother of the house, the one that has accepted to be the mother of my children," he said.
Governor Oshiomhole added that his wife is mature beyond her age and that his children have accepted her as their mother.
Correcting Speculation About the New First Lady ¶
There had been speculation about the nationality of the new Edo State first lady, with some reports claiming she was Ethiopian or Philippine.
Governor Oshiomhole clarified that his wife is from Cape Verde, which is part of West Africa, in an effort to put the debate about her origins to rest.
