A recent survey of 2,057 Kenyans conducted between January 9 and 26 found that politicians who defected from the National Super Alliance (NASA) to the Jubilee Party may be voted out in the upcoming General Election.
The poll, conducted by IPSOS, discovered that 44% of Kenyans believe these defectors moved for their own personal benefit and greed, while 26% believe it was to promote development.
In NASA strongholds, 43% of voters said they believe their leaders will be re-elected, 19% were unsure, and 37% believe they will be booted out. In contrast, in Jubilee strongholds, 46% of supporters said they do not think their MPs will be re-elected.
The survey also found that 57% of Kenyans believe NASA defectors moved for their own selfish interests, while 57% believe Jubilee defectors moved to promote development.
Regional statistics showed that supporters who believe their leaders will not be re-elected are: Central Kenyan (60%), North Eastern (50%), Rift Valley (45%), Western Kenya (44%), Eastern (37%), Nairobi (32%), Coast (33%), and Nyanza (31%).
The poll suggests that NASA may win more elective seats than Jubilee if the current defection trend continues.
