In an interview with eDaily, Pastor Wahome discussed the problems he encountered with Kawira due to his traditional expectations of a submissive wife. At the time, Kawira was working, which made it impossible for her to fulfill these expectations.
Pastor Wahome admitted that when he settled with Kawira, he was still influenced by his village upbringing, which led him to expect his wife to follow his instructions without question.
Joy and I really struggled, we could not agree on anything. I am that guy who is a hardliner and I expected my principles to be followed after all the man in me and the ego, thought a woman’s place is the kitchen. I expected her to submit fully and I wasn’t willing to change.
However, Pastor Wahome noted that his perspective has changed since their marriage in 2014. He credits the pre-marital classes they attended for helping him understand that his wife is his companion, rather than someone to be ordered around.
Despite facing challenges, including job losses, the couple has become more united and happy in their relationship.
