Rosemary Wanjiku, the grandmother of 13-year-old Faridah, has denied allegations of mistreating the girl, who was found spending nights outside her father's house.
According to Wanjiku, Faridah's behavior is to blame for her situation. She described the girl as someone who frequently skips school and uses her father's stolen money to go to nightclubs.
Wanjiku told Ghetto Radio News,
This girl would come home from clubs late at night, knowing that she has committed an offense, she would sleep outside and not even dare knock her father’s door.
She also stated that Faridah's teachers and neighbors have grown tired of her behavior, with the neighbors even warning their children against playing with her due to her tendency to steal.
Wanjiku claimed that photos of the girl were staged by individuals seeking to harm her reputation and gain political advantage.
Earlier reports by David Wanyoike suggested that the girl had been spending nights outside her house for nearly five years, allegedly due to mistreatment by her family, who believed she had brought a bad omen.
Wanyoike maintained that the girl was indeed being mistreated and accused Wanjiku of threatening him over his story.
The girl's father is currently in police custody.
