Deputy President William Ruto has been at the center of a controversy on social media following accusations by Priscah Chemutai, a former Moi University student, who claims he neglected their child born out of an alleged affair.
According to Priscah, she had a baby with the Deputy President in 2006. Despite his significant wealth, Priscah alleges that Ruto has failed to provide for their child, leaving the baby to live in poverty while he enjoys a luxurious lifestyle.
Priscah recounts meeting Ruto through a friend during her time at Moi University. At the time, Ruto was a Member of Parliament. The two became friends before starting an illicit affair, with Ruto allegedly inviting her to his Eldoret home for unprotected sex when he traveled without his wife.
As Priscah stated in her affidavit,
"Ruto pursued me with various propositions for a romantic relationship, and owing to my gullibility as a young and naive student, I acquiesced to the advances. Out of the romantic relationship between myself and the Deputy President, I conceived and on March 6, 2006, I delivered a beautiful baby girl."
Priscah claims that Ruto stopped supporting their daughter, Abby, with the last payment made in 2013. However, Ruto denies these allegations, stating that he has been providing for their daughter and even secured a job for Priscah with a monthly salary of Sh 90,000, in addition to sending her Sh 40,000 monthly for upkeep.
