On July 21, 2019, Kenya's national under-20 rugby team, Chipu, concluded their participation in the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with a sixth-place finish.

Chipu's performance in the tournament, which is World Rugby's second-tier junior competition, was a drop from their showing in 2009 where they finished fourth in their only other appearance at the eight-team global showpiece.

Despite a disappointing tournament, the team had some positives to take away, including the impressive displays by players like Jeffrey Okwach, a KCB youngster who may have staked a claim in the national men's senior 15s team, Simbas.

Kenya's lack of regular exposure proved costly, as they exhibited flashes of brilliance in the other three ties but ultimately fell short.
