A Ugandan woman, Ritah Kivumbi, lost her eyesight in 2008 after experiencing headaches and dizziness. However, she has learned to create amazing art pieces from her imagination.
Ritah's life changed dramatically when she fell unconscious in November 2008 and woke up to find she had lost her sight. After a period of recuperation, she attempted to return to her previous job but was met with hesitation from her employers due to her blindness.
With the support of her husband, Ritah started her own painting and crafts business, Magezi Art Exhibition. She discovered she could draw and paint using her imagination, and her business has become a success. Ritah now has an established client base and sells her pieces for between 10,000 and 1 million Ugandan shillings.
Overcoming Challenges ¶
Despite her success, Ritah still faces challenges, including not being able to see her children. Her eldest child accompanies her to meetings, and she relies on her supportive husband to help her navigate her daily life.
Ritah credits her husband with helping her find meaning in her life again after losing her eyesight. She has overcome her initial despair and is now happy to be contributing to her family's wellbeing.
