On July 23, 2019, the United States Ambassador to Kenya, Kyle McCarter, revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) would be collaborating with Kenyan investigative agencies to tackle corruption.
During a meeting with officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) at Integrity Centre in Nairobi, Ambassador McCarter stated that the FBI would provide intelligence on asset tracking and recovery to support Kenya's investigative authorities, including the EACC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
McCarter emphasized the importance of discretion in their efforts, saying, 'We don't have to advertise everything we do because we don't want to educate criminals. The criminals will be caught by surprise.'
He also expressed his commitment to ensuring that assets stashed in the US by corrupt individuals are returned to Kenya, stating, 'The people of Kenya deserve justice and we are going to deploy every resource. We want to win the war on corruption and that is our focus.'
