A senior Al-Shabaab commander, Adan Garar, who allegedly masterminded the Westgate terrorist attack, was killed in Somalia when the vehicle he was traveling in was struck by a missile fired from a drone in Bardhere.
The incident occurred at 2 pm and also resulted in the deaths of two of his aides. The strike was reportedly carried out by United States forces.
Adan Garar is noted as the highest-ranked Al-Shabaab commander to be killed since Ahmed Abdi Godane was eliminated in a similar strike in September of the previous year.
