A recent opinion poll conducted by Ipsos indicates that President Uhuru Kenyatta has a higher approval rating than CORD leader Raila Odinga.
According to the survey, which interviewed 2,057 respondents from 41 counties between January 9 and 26, 2017, 66% of those polled expressed a lot or some confidence in Uhuru, while 51% held the same view about Raila.
Deputy President William Ruto's approval rating stood at 52%, and the national government as a whole had an approval rating of 57%.
The survey also showed that confidence levels for main opposition leaders were considerably lower, with Raila Odinga having the highest rating among them, at about twice the level of his nearest CORD/NASA colleague, Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo Musyoka received an approval rating of 42%, while Musalia Mudavadi received 41%, and Moses Wetangula received 34%.
The poll identified the high cost of living and corruption as among the most serious problems facing the country, but hunger and drought were recognized as the most serious issues at the local level.
