On May 1, 2016, the body of former First Lady Lucy Kibaki arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

The body was flown in from London on a Kenya Airways flight, which also carried retired President Kibaki and other family members and friends who had been with her in London, where she passed away the previous Tuesday.

Pall bearers from the Kenya Defence Forces received the casket, which was draped in the Kenyan flag, at about 6:10 am.

A team of military personnel from the army, navy, and air force then took the casket, placing it under a gazebo as the State House choir sang a selection of songs, including the dirge 'It is well with my soul'.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, and various government officials, including Cabinet Secretaries and current and former MPs, were present to receive the delegation from London.

Fr Dominic Wamugunda led prayers, reading from the book of Wisdom.

The body was taken to Lee Funeral Home, where it will be kept as preparations for the funeral continue.

The recovered account cited reporting by Nairobi News.
