Rose Nyabhate, a star of the popular TV show Hapa Kule on KTN, has spoken out about her experience with the network, alleging that she was paid a monthly salary of 4,000 Kenya shillings.
According to Nyabhate, she earned 1,000 shillings per episode, which translates to 4,000 shillings per month. She expressed frustration with the low pay, stating that it barely covered her expenses.
Nyabhate shared her story, saying:
I don't want to answer to any news outlet about Hapakule news of KTN. I will appreciate if guys you stop calling and asking. It's true that I was shown the door from Hapakule after asking for a raise. I used to go home with 1k per episode, translating to 4,000 a month!
She also mentioned that the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) was supposed to provide her with 10,000 shillings per day, but the amount was reduced to 7,000 shillings. Nyabhate felt underpaid, considering the production team made 200,000 shillings per episode, while she received only 1,000 shillings.
Nyabhate claimed that she was fired by Abel Mutua, the show's producer, after she asked for a raise. The reasons given for her termination included allegedly inciting her colleagues and leaving the production team's WhatsApp group.
Nyabhate stated that she worked under difficult conditions, shooting in Kiambu each week without transportation and only receiving one meal per day, for which she was paid 1,000 shillings. She emphasized that fame does not pay bills and that she loved the show but felt undervalued.
