Eunice Wambui, known as Nyasuguta for her role as the 'naive wife' to Mogaka on 'Vitimbi', was attacked and beaten by four men on Friday, 3rd February 2017.
According to Nyasuguta, the men punched her face and hit her with a wooden rod on her neck and back. She stated, 'They later told me that "Embakasi iko na wenyewe".'
Background and Context ¶
Nyasuguta had announced her bid to run for the Embakasi South parliamentary seat. Prior to the attack, she had also been accused of conning young ladies with alleged fake promises of securing them jobs in the Middle East.
Her car was vandalized three days before the attack. Despite suffering injuries and experiencing mild breathing problems, Nyasuguta has continued her campaign.
Response and Consequences ¶
Nyasuguta has reported the incident and sought protection from her party. Jubilee has condemned the attack.
Nyasuguta expressed her desire for peaceful campaigns during the election period and asked for protection for women in the area, stating, 'I ask for peaceful campaigns during this period of elections and also seek for protection from our party, we women of this area are suffering.'
