A primary school exam question has drawn criticism from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for appearing to taunt its leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
The question, which was posted on social media, asks: "Who among the following have never been a president in Kenya?" The multiple-choice options include (A) Mwai Kibaki, (B) Daniel Arap Moi, (C) Jomo Kenyatta, and (D) Raila Odinga.
According to Philip Etale, ODM director of communication, if the exam is authentic, it is in bad taste and could undermine the progress Kenyans have made in promoting national cohesion and integration.
Etale called for the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Ministry of Education to investigate the matter and take action. He argued that the question is divisive and could incite students.
The question was first shared on Twitter by Dikembe Disembe, sparking mixed reactions from Kenyans. Some users, like Ram Thiga, saw the question as a harmless inquiry about past presidents. Others, including celebrated TV journalist Mohammed Ali, condemned the question as an attempt to corrupt the minds of innocent students.
