Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has appointed Charles Kerich as a 'Super CEC' to oversee other executives at City Hall. This appointment was made through an executive order signed on July 18, 2019.
As the 'Super CEC', Kerich will be responsible for supervising the 10 sectors of the county government by implementing and coordinating programmes. He will also provide supervisory leadership throughout the delivery cycle of all county programmes, receive reports from executives, and present progress reports to the governor.
Additionally, Kerich will provide coordinated strategic communication to the public and other stakeholders on the progress of the projects. He will also monitor and evaluate follow-up mechanisms for resources allocated to all priority programmes.
According to the executive order, Kerich's role includes overseeing the implementation and communication of all county government projects and any other function ancillary to the above as may be directed by the governor.
There are 10 CECs in Nairobi county, each responsible for a different sector. Kerich's appointment is similar to that of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, who was recently appointed super CS by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking on the appointment, Sonko emphasized that it was necessary for efficient coordination and administration of all projects. He also stated that the appointment is in line with the Constitution and the County Government's Act requiring executive authority to be exercised for the well-being and benefit of county residents.
