The Beyond Zero Campaign, an initiative of Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta, has embarked on its 3rd annual half marathon to raise funds for reducing maternal and child mortality rates in Kenya. Over 35,000 runners have registered for the event, which kicked off at Nyayo National Stadium.

The campaign, launched in January 2014, aims to supplement government efforts in improving maternal, newborn, and child health in the country. It has been praised for its positive impact on rural communities, where maternal and child mortality rates are high due to inadequate medical infrastructure.

Since its inception, the Beyond Zero Campaign has acquired and launched 36 mobile clinics in 36 counties across the country. Recently, the campaign received significant donations, including Sh 50 million, bringing the total donations for this year's race to Sh 189 million.

Donations were made by various organizations, including Merck Limited, Amref, Chase Bank Foundation, and Beta Healthcare International Limited. Other contributors included the Murang'a County Initiative, the Kenya Charity Sweepstake, and several church organizations.

The funds raised will be used to refurbish hospital wards and maintain the functionality of the mobile clinics. The campaign also aims to set up a state-of-the-art hospital for women and children.
