Thousands of Kanu supporters denied Deputy President William Ruto and his Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) convoy access to Uhuru Gardens in Kericho Town, where he was scheduled to address a rally.
The supporters, waving Kanu placards and chanting the 'Kanu Juu' slogan, were joined by five Kanu-branded helicopters flying overhead for 30 minutes, effectively holding the Deputy President hostage in a display of strength.
The Deputy President's convoy was forced to make a U-turn and take an alternative route. Ruto witnessed the drama unfold, reportedly watching in disbelief as the situation escalated. This incident occurred after the Deputy President had opened the Kericho Huduma Centre in the central business district.
Kanu supporters blocked the road, overpowering police despite the sound of sirens. The Kanu team was set to hold a rally at Moi Gardens, approximately 500 meters away. Earlier, riot police had attempted to stop the rally but were unsuccessful.
