Kenya: Arror and Kimwarer Dam Scandal Suspects Named ¶
On July 22, 2019, Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of 25 individuals, including Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, in connection with the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.
The suspects, who include Rotich and his Principal Secretary Kamau Thugge, are accused of misappropriating millions of shillings meant for the construction of the dams.
Rotich was summoned to appear before the DCI on the same day, while his colleagues were arrested in Eldoret.
Among those arrested were Francis Chepkonga Kipkech, Samuel Kimutai Koskei, David Juma Onyango, Patrick Kiptoo, Elizabeth Kebenei, and Esther Jepchirchir Kiror, who were part of the tender committee.
Others include Moses Kipchumba, Nelson Korir, Isaac M. Kiir, Patrick Kipsang, Fredrick Towett, Jotham Rutto, Charity Muui, Geoffrey Mwangi Wahungu, David Walunya Ongare, and Boniface Mamboleo Lengisho, who were part of the ad hoc technical and financial evaluation committee.
