A number of successful Kenyan musicians have university degrees that could have led to prestigious careers outside of music.

- Nameless - Also known as David Mathenge, Nameless is a graduate of the University of Nairobi, where he studied architecture. He has had a successful music career, with hits like Megarider, Boomba Train, Salari, Sinzia, and Butterfly.
- Wahu - Wahu Kagwi, known simply as Wahu, is a singer, songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur. She has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Nairobi and has won several music awards, including the Best Female Artist category at the inaugural MTV Africa Music Award in 2008.
- Frasha (P-Unit member) - Frasha, whose real name is not provided, is a medical doctor who used to work at the Aga Khan Hospital. He has since pursued a music career and has released a solo album called Dakitare.
- Polycarp Otieno (Sauti Sol’s guitarist) - Polycarp, also known as Fancy Fingers, is the lead guitarist and producer for Sauti Sol. He graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) with a degree in Actuarial Science.
- Maureen Kunga (Elani band member) - Maureen is a Law graduate from the University of Nairobi and was recently admitted to the bar. She has mentioned that she gained more from her university experience socially than academically.
- Bryan Chweya (Elani band member) - Bryan is also a Law graduate from the University of Nairobi and was admitted to the bar. He has stated that his parents encouraged him to finish his studies before pursuing his passion for music.
- Wambui Ngugi (Elani band member) - Wambui holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi, although she has not used her degree in a conventional way. She describes her entry into music as a "beautiful mistake".
- Sanaipei Tande - Sanaipei is a trained pharmacist who attended Kenya Medical Training College. She has faced criticism for her music videos, including Mfalme wa Mapenzi in 2014.
- Amelina - Amelina is a former Tusker Project Fame contestant who studied Hospitality and Operation Management at the International Hotel School in Johannesburg, South Africa.
