After a challenging year, Cord co-principal Raila Odinga is spending the Christmas season with his family on a holiday abroad that will extend into the New Year.
Odinga had a tough year in politics and also experienced personal loss with the death of his first son, Fidel Odinga.
According to Odinga, Christmas is a time for enjoyment and a break from busy schedules. In a recent interview, he expressed his intention to take time off from politics and spend it with his immediate family.
"Christmas should be enjoyable. It is the only time that politicians like me get to be off our busy schedules for some time," he said.
Odinga plans to visit several Southern African countries with his wife, Ida, their children, and grandchildren, returning after the New Year.
In his holiday message, Odinga wished all Kenyans a merry Christmas and a happy 2016, hoping for a peaceful period without incidents like terrorist attacks or road accidents.
