The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released preliminary figures on new voter registrations. According to the IEBC, 3,782,089 applications for new registration were received, representing 62% of the upper target of 6 million voters and 95% of the lower target of 4 million voters.
Top Performing Counties ¶
The top 10 counties with the highest percentage of new voter registrations against their targets are:
- Kajiado: 240%
- Mandera: 116%
- Narok: 102%
- Garissa: 92%
- Kirinyaga: 91%
- Kiambu: 90%
- Wajir: 89%
- Murang'a: 86%
- Nakuru: 84%
- West Pokot: 81%
Counties with Most New Registrations ¶
The top 10 counties with the most new voter registrations are:
- Nairobi City: 461,346
- Kiambu: 225,995
- Nakuru: 175,756
- Meru: 169,803
- Mombasa: 141,686
- Kilifi: 123,866
- Machakos: 114,320
- Kakamega: 114,126
- Murang'a: 101,724
- Uasin Gishu: 100,346
The IEBC also reported 1,001,819 voter transfer applications. After processing the data, the Commission will compile a preliminary register of voters, which will be subject to inspection and verification by the public starting May 10, 2017.
Next Steps ¶
The IEBC will now process all the data received from the field to the Central Database at their Headquarters in Nairobi for further processing. A preliminary register will be compiled after a period of about 40 days and sent to registration officers in the field to confirm the correctness of the information.
