The rivalry between NASA’s affiliate parties, particularly Wiper and ODM, is escalating. Recent comments made by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho have drawn criticism from Wiper leaders.
Joho stated that Raila Odinga would be President in August, despite no official announcement of a NASA flag bearer. In response, Wiper leaders, including Senator Hassan Omar, have accused Joho of hiding behind Raila Odinga to conceal his poor development record at the coast.
Omar claimed that Joho has achieved little since taking office in 2013 and is using his association with Raila to boost his own reputation. Speaking to Daily Nation, Omar warned that Wiper would sweep the board in upcoming elections, winning key seats in the coastal region.
Wiper Secretary General emphasized that the party would field its own candidates in the region and beyond, ensuring free and fair nominations. This development may further strain the relationship between Wiper and ODM within the NASA coalition.
Omar also disputed Joho’s claim that the coastal region is an ODM stronghold, citing Wiper’s past victories in areas like Lamu, Kilifi, and Tana River.
