On July 22, 2019, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen spoke out against the arrest of Treasury CS Henry Rotich, calling it a 'public relations' stunt.
Murkomen made his comments at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, where CS Rotich had been arrested following an order by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
'My conclusion from what I have seen is that we are not fighting corruption. What is happening is that we are lying to Kenyans and trying to create a narrative that is meant to show that there is an ongoing war on corruption,' said Murkomen.
CS Rotich, along with PS Kamau Thugge and 26 other officers, is set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
