The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has condemned a high court ruling that allows gays and lesbians to form a union to advocate for their rights.
According to the Kenya News Agency, CIPK Organizing Secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa criticized the judges, stating they had abused their powers by making a ruling that contradicts the constitution.
Sheikh Khalifa said,
The constitution outlaws unions of the same and such ruling is contradictory and we as the communion of Muslims shall not respect it.
He questioned the judiciary's decision to ban certain religious attire while seeking to legalize homosexuality. Sheikh Khalifa urged Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to intervene and stop judges from passing rulings that are not constitutional, particularly on matters related to religion.
The CIPK expressed strong condemnation for anything that goes against the natural order and voiced upset over the trend of judges passing judgments that antagonize believers.
