A suspected attack by the Al Shabaab militia group occurred in Mpeketoni, a coastal town in Lamu, on a Sunday night. The attackers opened fire, prompting residents to flee to the bush for safety. A police station, petrol stations, and numerous businesses were destroyed during the attack.
According to reports from the scene, dozens of people are confirmed dead. As of the latest update, 50 bodies had been recovered, and the death toll is expected to rise as the search for victims continues.
